The Manxman

The Manxman Review

The Manxman (1929 | B&W | Silent)
In this romantic melodrama, Hitchcock explores the story of a fisherman named Pete and a lawyer named Philip. The two have been best friends since childhood, growing up on the Isle of Man. Both are now in love with the same woman, the beautiful Kate. When Kate's father denies Pete his daughter's hand in marriage, Pete goes to sea to seek his fortune, leaving Kate in the care of his best friend. When Pete is reported lost at sea, Philip and Kate begin an affair. But when Pete returns, he marries Kate and they have a child. Kate must then reveal who the child's father is. This compelling story was Hitchcock's last silent film.
